Who We Help

Tutoring isn't only for students who are behind.

Some students arrive needing to close a gap. Others arrive already doing well and wanting more — a harder problem set, a head start on next term, a subject the classroom moves through too quickly. All of it is the same work: find where the student actually is, then teach from there.

Catching up

Filling the gaps that quietly make everything afterwards harder, without embarrassment.

Keeping up

Steady weekly support through a demanding course, so nothing accumulates unseen.

Getting ahead

Working forward into next term's material at a pace the classroom can't offer.

Exam preparation

Provincial exams, unit tests and finals — practised under real conditions.

Enrichment

For students who finish early and are ready to be genuinely challenged.

Homeschool families

Subject teaching and academic support during school hours. See homeschooling

Subjects

Three subjects, taught properly.

Grades 8–12

Mathematics

From number sense and fractions through the Workplace, Foundations and Pre-Calculus pathways — with the earlier gaps repaired rather than worked around.

Grades 8–12

Science

Science 9 and 10 — the vocabulary, the problem-solving and the lab reasoning that exams actually test.

Grades 9–10

Physics 11

BC Physics 11 specifically — kinematics, forces, energy and waves. The reasoning behind the formula sheet, practised until the problems stop looking unfamiliar.

Grade 11 only

Looking for a subject not listed? Ask during the consultation — if it isn't a fit, I'll say so.

How It Works

Meet Justin

Fifteen minutes is usually enough to know whether I'm the right fit.

A certified BC teacher with twenty-plus years in the classroom, a current criminal record check, and a homeschooling family of my own. One tutor, start to finish.

Credentials

A certified teacher, not a tutoring service.

You are hiring one person, and these are that person's qualifications. There is no roster, no assignment process, and no substitute tutor on the weeks I'm busy.

20+ years teaching experience

More than two decades teaching math and science, with deep familiarity with the courses BC students are taking today.

BC teaching certificate

A valid British Columbia teaching certificate — not a tutoring-company credential.

Current criminal record check

A current criminal record check, as required for working with children in BC.

Online Tutoring

Not a video call with homework held up to the camera.

Sessions run on a shared digital workspace, so we write on the same page, work through the same problem, and both see the reasoning as it happens. Available to families anywhere in British Columbia.

  • Chosen around your student's devicea Chromebook, a school laptop, or a home computer.
  • Written work we can both seeshared drawing tools, so the working is visible, not described.
  • The same tutor every weekI keep the notes and the context.
  • Flexible schedulingevenings, weekends, or school hours.
  • Anywhere in BCKelowna to the Kootenays to the coast.

The exact setup depends on the student's device and what they already use at school. We'll choose the simplest thing that works well for them, and sort it out before the first session.

Homeschooling

A teaching partner for homeschool families across British Columbia.

Our own family homeschools, so this isn't a category I accommodate — it's one I live in. I know how much a parent can carry, and where an outside teacher genuinely helps: the subject you'd rather not teach, the one that's moved past you, the enrichment you don't have hours left for.

Sessions can run during school hours and fit around the rhythm your family already has — online for homeschool families anywhere in British Columbia, or in person here in Kelowna.

Subject-specific teaching

Take one subject off your plate entirely — taught, tracked and assessed.

School-hours availability

Daytime sessions, so evenings stay yours.

Enrichment & challenge

Extension work for a student who's ready to go further than the plan.

In Person · Kelowna

Across the table, in Kelowna.

Some students simply work better in the same room, and in-person tutoring in Kelowna is a service I actively offer — not a fallback for when online won't do. I come to the student's home, or we meet at a public library, whichever suits your family.

For in-person sessions you can pay cash when I arrive, or online by card — whichever is easier.

In-home sessions

At the student's own kitchen table, where the space works.

Public libraries

A neutral, quiet table — often the best option for teens.

Flexible scheduling

After school, evenings, or during the homeschool day.

Local curriculum knowledge

Twenty-plus years inside BC schools and their courses.
